Introducing AdventHealth ParentCare

AdventHealth Shawnee Mission knows that parenting is a journey with many unknowns and endless health care concerns. Our goal is to make raising children the least stressful and most joyful, lifelong journey possible—mentally, physically, and emotionally. That’s why we’re excited to introduce ParentCare, a resource parents can turn to with any questions or concerns about themselves or their children and get free, trusted, personal answers from experts who will listen.

Children’s exposure to adverse childhood experiences, known as ACEs, is a significant, unaddressed public health threat. ACEs are strongly associated with nine of the 10 leading causes of death in the U.S., as well as earlier mortality. The number one way to prevent damage to our mental, physical, and emotional health is by fostering safe, stable, and nurturing relationships with a mother, father, or other primary caregiver. ParentCare is here to help parents do just that.

Together, we can reduce the risk of the most common and serious conditions facing our society today—including bullying, obesity, depression, diabetes, drug addiction, anxiety, heart disease, suicide and cancer. ParentCare offers families personalized Coaching, Advice, Resources and Education.

Coaching

ParentCare coaches are buffers who help prevent and solve parenting struggles before they escalate and become toxic. When you call 913-632-4206 or email SHAW.Parent.Care@adventhealth.com, our coaches provide access to evidence-based answers on topics such as postpartum complications, going back to work, sleep deprivation, setting boundaries and discipline, breastfeeding, depression and anxiety, relationships, isolation at home, fitness, nutrition, identity, and body image.

Advice

BehaviorChecker®, our digital parenting tool—available 24/7, 365 days a year—is the online buffer of immediate advice, answers and encouragement for over 150 common parenting struggles, from helping a sibling welcome a new baby to motivating your teenager to persevere through remote learning. With one click, anytime day or night, you can get advice, answers and encouragement to handle temper tantrums, jealousy, sibling rivalry, not following directions and fighting bedtime/naptime. Plus, if you want more in-depth answers, you can participate in online coach-led, live ParentCare Coffee Talks.

Resources

The AdventHealth ParentCare “Hub” is at the heart of ParentCare Resources. It provides instant access to our extensive offerings of women’s and family services focused on the whole person including:

Education

ParentCare Coffee Talks and other classes on a wide variety of topics, such as sibling rivalry, child development, family relationships, eating/feeding/nutrition, co-parenting conflicts, and single parenting, were created because you told us you need a reliable place to get answers to your parenting questions and have conversations with others who share similar experiences.

"Flipping the norm and having a true resource for families on a regular basis would be instrumental in raising children." — Erin and Martin, mom and dad of 5- and 8-year-olds
